Privacy Policy

Scanning: the image is sent to a vision model (Qwen3-VL via OpenRouter) to read the text. A temporary failure may be retried once. It is not stored by us for this step.

Translating: if you press Translate, the text lines found in the image (not the image) and the language you picked are sent to a text model (Qwen3 via OpenRouter), which returns the translations to your browser. A temporary failure may be retried once. We do not store the text for this step.

Editing: the image is stored in our private storage (Cloudflare R2) so the edit can run, and sent once to the image model (ByteDance Seedream via fal.ai) by a link that expires within a day. If a line you change overlaps other text (common in photos taken at an angle), the image is also sent to Google Cloud Vision to find the exact outline of that line; Google processes it in memory, does not store it and does not use it for training. Uploaded images are deleted within one day. Results are stored for 30 days so you can download them again, then deleted.

Unfinished edits: the image you picked, the text found in it and the lines you typed are saved in your own browser (IndexedDB) for up to a day, so signing in or paying does not lose them. This copy stays on your device. It is deleted when the edit starts or when you choose another image.

We do not use your images to train anything, and we do not look at them unless you ask us to for support or submit an edit to the homepage (below).

If you turn on "Show this edit on the homepage", we copy the original and the result into a separate area of our private storage so they are not deleted after one day and 30 days. We review them by hand. If approved, both images and the changed text are shown on makeitsay.com without your name or email.

When you turn it off, or we decline or take it down, the public copy is removed at once and our copies are deleted. Copies of a public image already loaded by a browser or a cache may last up to an hour. Your original upload and result keep their usual deletion dates.

We keep a record of the submission (which edit, its status, the reason if declined, and any credits given) with your account.

Email address, name, sign-in method, credit balance and edit history (which lines were changed, not the images, after they are deleted). Passwords are stored hashed. Google sign-in gives us your email and name only.

Stripe processes payments. We store the Stripe customer and payment identifiers, the product bought and the amount. We never see your card number.

We count page views and product events: image scanned, lines translated (how many and into which language), edit started, finished or failed, pricing viewed, checkout started, result downloaded, switched to the other version, payment completed, sign-up. Events carry the page path, the language, a random ID kept in your browser and, for sign-ups and payments, the country. They never carry your images, the text you typed, your email or your IP address; IP collection is turned off. The data goes to PostHog, which stores it in the United States.

In the United States, Canada (outside Quebec), Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Switzerland, analytics is on unless you turn it off. Everywhere else, including the EU, the UK and Quebec, nothing is sent until you allow it in the banner.

If your browser sends Global Privacy Control, we treat it as a no. You can turn analytics on or off any time with the Cookie settings link in the footer. When it is off, nothing is sent and the site works the same.

To limit abuse, scans are counted per IP address range and, when you are signed in, per account, by the hour and by the day; translations are counted per IP address range and per scan. The address is kept only as a keyed hash that cannot be turned back into it. The counts are deleted after about a day.

Email support@makeitsay.com to see, correct or delete your account data, or to delete a result before 30 days. We delete the account, its sign-in data, its results and any edits shown on the homepage; payment records are kept as long as tax and accounting rules require.
